A Christmas party for our junior tennis players was held at the Club on Monday 8th December.
Twenty-four Mini Red and Mini Orange players (aged 4-8) arrived in fancy dress and started the party with an hour’s floodlit tennis on a perfect cold, dry and Christmassy evening. Fun was the theme for the evening so with loud Christmas music being played down on the tennis courts the children were dancing around and playing tennis to keep nice and warm to the sound of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and more. Once prizes came into play, Becky Hardman found true tennis form and hit the most targets to win several suprise Christmas presents.
It was then back up to the festively decorated clubhouse for a Christmas feast fit for a king and queen. After pulling their Christmas crackers, sandwiches, cakes, crisps and fruit were all enjoyed by the hungry children.
Having satisfied their healthy appetites, prizes were then given to Erin and Bradley for the best fancy dress. Pass the parcel followed, with Adam winning the Mini Red prize and Matthew winning the Mini Orange prize.
A visitor then came to Ryde Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club. He had never been here before and said he would only come in if he heard lots of loud singing. So with all the children singing Jingle Bells at the top of their voices (we believe they were even heard in Binstead!) the lights were dimmed and Father Christmas magically entered with a big sack of presents for all the children.
Everyone had a wonderful time and was he the real one? I think so, and lets hope he comes back next year to Ryde Lawn to see us all again.
Merry Christmas to one and all!
Chrissie
