Juniors meet Andy Murray
Island junior tennis players mixing with the Murray brothers.
Four junior tennis players from the Island were invited to the LTA’s National Tennis Centre in Roehampton, London, where the best of Britain’s tennis players train daily.
Jamie Churches , Jake Scrimshaw and Tobi Challis all from Ryde Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club and Luke Harris from Ventnor Tennis Club had finished in top positions of the mini orange and mini green County tennis tournament ladders over the Summer season.
With their families, the exclusive invitation, for the 4 boys gave them an action packed day at the National Centre. Friendly matches were played against other juniors from Mainland clubs also finishing top in the county. The boys were then given a tour of the fantastic facilities at the National Centre and presented with their awards and certificates.
All of the British professional players including Anna Keothavong, Alex Bogdanovich and coach Greg Rusedski gave the Island juniors a memorable day but the highlight had to be watching brothers Andy & Jamie Murray undergoing their unique training on court, followed by the autographing of hats, balls and having photographs taken with the young Island tennis players.
The boys left the centre feeling very hopeful of the way tennis is progressing on the island and wishing one day for such a brilliant indoor facility to train at!
